Wings Etc. is a Midwestern bar/restaurant franchise famous for its wings (as you could probably guess). It also serves usual bar fare, including burgers, fries, and appetizers. They recently ran a special for Lent, featuring a Shrimp Po’ Boy. You can find out a bit more about it in this surprisingly well-produced ad they put up on youtube:
As you can see, it’s a fried shrimp sandwich on a hamburger bun. It’s a bit different from the traditional preparation of a Po’ Boy, but since there are debates on what the traditional prep even is, I’m willing to let it go. Anywho, it was actually a really good sandwich. The shrimps were delicious, and large and numerous enough to fill the sandwich. The ranch sauce was a nice complement, and brought out a nicer flavor than a more obvious choice like cocktail sauce would’ve. The veggies were good, and the bun was big enough to hold everything together, which is important on a sandwich with so many smaller elements. Overall, a great change of pace.
The Shrimp Po’ Boy was only around $5, a great deal for a great sandwich. Now that Lent is over, I’m not sure if it’s still going to be on the menu much longer, so pick one up while you have the chance.
